What is chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care is a natural method of health care that focuses on treating the causes of physical problems, rather than just treating the symptoms. Chiropractic is the science of locating offending spinal structures (the subluxation), and the art of reducing their impact to the nervous system. With a normally functioning spine and healthy nerve system, your body is better able to heal itself. Your spine is the lifeline of your nervous system and it controls feeling, movement, and all function though your body.
What is an adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment is using a specific force in a precise direction, applied to a joint that is subluxated, "locked up", or not moving properly. The purpose of the adjustment is to correct your spinal subluxation(s) thus removing the nerve interference in your body.
Does it hurt to get adjusted?
No. Most chiropractic adjustments are not only painless, they actually feel great and relieving. When you allow the vertebrae in your spine to return to their proper position, you will notice much less stress and tension. Most patients look forward to their treatments as many experience instantaneous relief immediately afterwards.
Are all patients adjusted the same way?
No. The doctor evaluates each patient's unique combination of pains, health history, and state of wellness and develops an individual course of care.
What causes the sound during an adjustment?
That sound is not your spine "popping" or "cracking" like most people think. In fact, some adjustments do not always produce a sound. If you do hear a sound, the sound is caused by gas rushing in to fill the partial vacuum created when the joints are slightly separated. This sound is painless and totally harmless.
Is chiropractic care addictive?
No. It is possible to get used to feeling more balanced, less stressed, and more energetic as a result of regular chiropractic care. Chiropractic is not addictive, however, good health is.
Once you see a chiropractor, do you have to go for the rest of your life?
No. The extent to which you choose to benefit from your chiropractic care is ultimately up to you. We are all solely responsible for the quality of our health & well-being. Chiropractic care is a lifestyle decision and you will want to remain subluxation free for life.
What type of education do chiropractic doctors get?
Chiropractors are very well educated. The science of chiropractic requires a special emphasis on anatomy, physiology, pathology, neurology, biomechanics, x-ray, spinal adjusting techniques, and related subjects. This demanding curriculum prepares chiropractor doctors to locate the subluxation and help to correct the resulting nervous system dysfunction. To graduate with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree, each candidate passes the demanding National Board Examination. Then, doctors apply to a governmental or professional licensing board and pass a State Board Examination before being granted the privilege to practice. A chiropractic education never ends. Most states require the doctor of chiropractic to attend annual seminars in order to maintain a high level of competency and keep technical skills sharp and as current as possible.
